Field Note 1.3 (a): When the Messenger Divides

What Happens When The News Gets Weaponized?

In Waypoint 1.3, the trickster-rodent Ratatoskr scurries up and down the World Tree, trading insults between dragon and eagle — a mischief-maker stoking endless conflict. But it’s the tree itself that suffers.

In our own post-truth political landscape, trickster pundits play a similar role. They pit citizen against citizen, friend against friend, sibling against sibling. The outrage is relentless — and the media market thrives on the chaos.

Many of us have felt it: a friendship cooled, a brother grown distant, conversations derailed by talking points. It’s more than just a little snow down the shirt.

Have you lost connection with someone because of the rhetoric they trust — or the truths you can’t agree on?
